About Katy
I am an artist and graphic designer from Renton, Washington. In 2008 I earned my BA from the University of Washington. After a decade of working in hardware stores and with children with special needs, I went back to school via the graphic design certificate program at Bellevue College. Now I use both my mixed media and digital design skills to create my artwork. In 2019 I became fascinated by the way the color-changing lights in my studio made the colors in my paintings change. This fascination led me to learn about the science behind this effect, and I have been obsessed with the idea ever since. Watching these designs shift eases my anxiety and allows me to think creatively, especially when the experience is paired with music. I have recently begun expanding my use of light reactive materials in my work by incorporating color-shifting pigments, solar-reactive materials, dichroic materials, and more.
